Blu-ray / HD DVD for storage of the competition to replace the standard DVD format. In fact, they seek to replace the standard DVD in terms of storage capacity. Well there is still a need to improve an existing system, both formats have received much attention because of the imminent appearance film and video in high definition television. In particular, high definition movies need more storage space and therefore looking for the next generation DVD is in progress.
Blu-ray and HD DVD are fighting to replace the standard DVD. Much research and development was the creation of every size and industry giants took another and another, to their products.
Sony and Panasonic are two major electronics companies use to go with Blu-ray. All its products are used for Blu-ray.
NEC and Toshiba HD DVD and all its products are used in the HD DVD.
In regard to gaming consoles Sony's PlayStation 3 will use Blu-ray and Microsoft's Xbox use HD DVD.
All these products are back which will support standard DVD player. However, you can not replicate the format of competing disk storage. So Blu-ray will not be able to play HD and vice versa.
The truth is that many large companies have invested so much money on their products, would see that the opposition, so the last thing I do is try to make them compatible.
However, Pioneer and LG made an announcement which would produce a dual Blu-ray/HD DVD. This will no doubt two different players, one for Blu-ray and one for HD DVD. NEC also recently announced they are building a chip that can be used as processor behind a universal player that will be able to play Blu-ray and HD DVD. So many things happen, but you may have to wait several years before we see products on the shelves and can be expensive to start.
